A confused client called our office today after receiving a letter from Local Records Office, “Didn’t I already pay you to record my deed?  Is this another county fee?”

After he faxed us the letter, we knew right away that it was scam.  The solicitation asks you to pay an $89 fee to receive a “copy of the only document that identifies you as the property owner”, which is completely unnecessary for our clients.  We mail the original deeds back to our clients after we scan the document for our records.  You do not need to pay this third-party for your deed.

While the letter does state in the small print that the company is not affiliated with the county, or any other government agency, it is easy to look past that notice and simply the bill.  Here is a link to an article about the company.

If you have any questions, or if you are over the age of 65 and you have paid this fee, please give our office a call.
