Matthias Hallett, Oregon Provisionally Licensed Attorney
Matthias grew up in a quiet Army town on the Georgia-Alabama border, where his formative years were spent exploring his grandparents’ property with his dog and learning the art of gardening from his grandmother. These early experiences nurtured his lifelong passion for sustainable agriculture, animal husbandry, and land conservation, shaping the core values of his educational and professional journey.
A proud graduate of the University System of Georgia, Matthias majored in political science and minored in economics. Prior to law school, he gained diverse experience working as a substitute teacher and as a field director for political campaigns spanning both major political parties.
While attending Vermont Law School, Matthias ventured into entrepreneurship by founding a biotechnology start-up focused on bioremediation, employing industrial hemp and beneficial bacteria to restore polluted soils. Though the venture ultimately closed its doors, the experience provided Matthias invaluable firsthand insights into the complex challenges faced by small businesses—insights he now leverages to better advise and guide his clients.
Matthias graduated from Vermont Law School in December 2019 and immediately began his legal career as Deputy Clerk at the Muscogee County Probate Court. Serving during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Matthias became proficient in navigating the nuances of virtual probate practice. Following a furlough due to governmental shutdowns, he joined a solo law practice in Phenix City, Alabama, as a Law Clerk. There, Matthias expanded his expertise in corporate formation, business transactions, intellectual property protection, construction law, landlord-tenant disputes, and real estate settlements.
In 2023, Matthias joined Legacy Preservation Law, where he dedicates his practice to probate, trust planning, and trust administration. Matthias and his wife, Laurin, relocated to Portland, captivated by the city’s unique charm during a visit for a friend’s wedding. Outside of work, Matthias and Laurin enjoy exploring the breathtaking landscapes of the Pacific Northwest and hosting gatherings for friends—especially during college football season.
